Problem with usb recognition
This afternoon my usb icons disappeared from my Desktop The lights are still on the devices. I can find no usb devices in /media. Is there a command I can run to check them. I did an update to my software this morning. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried "Device Manager"? It should show up any devices attached to a USB port.
Handling of cameras in Ubuntu 6.10 is different from that of 6.06 ... a message popped up in 6.06 when the camera was connected, but with 6.10, a manual download via F-Spot (or another photo processor) has to be done.
When a USB Flash Drive is inserted, 6.10 brings up a Nautilus window automatically.

After rebooting the usb devices didn't show up. I decided to load a live cd to see if it was a hardware problem and all the devices showed up on the Desktop. Upon rebooting into my normal system they showed up. However if anybody can explain why this would make a difference it may be of use to other members of Wlug
