Modem times out when connecting to ihug with Ubuntu but connects fine win98 below is the connection log

Thek the 'carrier timeout'
In windows it's about 60 seconds (might even have been 90), wvdial defaults to much less (45 seconds) and you probably need to make it longer.

This appears to be the problem.
I'm puzzled though, wvdial is supposed to be smart about this and drop through to a PPP session automatically. Perhaps the timeout actually wants to be _less_ :)
