Remember if a VPN is 'free' you aren't the customer, and there is a pretty sure bet that you're data will be sold and/or your traffic will be injected with adverts. For me I use the PIA VPN extension (in both Firefox and Chromium). The advatange of this VPN is excellent controls including being able to whitelist sites that aren't VPN friendly or you don't want to use a VPN for.
