serial terminal program
I want to give my modem an ATL0 to see if I can make it quieter. What program do I use for this?
g
Depends on your distro,
Most have minicomm, but ATL0 ? very quiet, sound off
But mini comm should be there, usually needs root access get to the /dev/cuax port
dont forget to store it.
Also check your dialler, it may allow you to add it to the init string

Thanks. I got it done. ATL0 does indeed turn the sound off completely but I have ref book here that says L0 and L1 are the same for the modem that came with the book.

How is that specified in pppconfig? I did try it but I'm not sure of the syntax and it didn't work.

sorry, cant really help there , I haven't used dial up for years, all networked to a router now-days, but I know it could be done under Kppp.
sorry

You can change your modem initialisation string in whatever dialer you use.
you can use: echo ATL0 >/dev/modem
you can use minicom
there are probably even more creative solutions ;)
