while we're on the topic!
if any of you are near/in Sheffield, UK around the 20th, Steven Pickles and
i have a piece called 'q3apd' in the Lovebytes festival:
http://www.lovebytes.org.uk/
the work uses autonomous software bots in mortal combat as control data for
generating a composition. q3apd is an auralisation of combat as an event field:
agent vectors become notes, orientations accents, local positions become pitch and actions drive phrases.
it's free software and works well as a (networked) performance environment also - live players can
replace bots and need not fight!
technical and download info here for those that want to explore it themselves (linux & quake3 only):
http://selectparks.net/archive/q3apd.htm
a public-friendly and updated page will be online as soon as the work goes into the
festival.
out of interest q3apd is a little similar to another work of mine 'q3apaint' that uses bots
to create abstract paintings:
http://selectparks.net/~julian/images/q3apaint/
if in Newcastle around the time of Honor's AVFest http://avfest.co.uk,
i'll be giving a workshop intensive in game development with a focus on
applications for artists and architects. it's all in the PDF:
http://www.avfest.co.uk/download/AV%20Festival%2006%20Guide.pdf
if coming along let me know!

heyho
i hope all you southern dwellers are truly basking in the sun and
forgetting just how lucky you all are...-15 degrees here in riga and
falling...ouch
just thought i would add something to zitas last post about Luka and the
van..the van is actually owned by both luka and myself and it is now a
residency. Luka and I are opening it up for international artists to use
so they can come see nz, and integrate a little with the local scene on a
social or practical level...i have spoken with a few ADA-ers off list and
in person to see if we can get some form of circuit going so that artists
(curators/theorists/etc) can travel to nz, use the van and then do some
lectures to help pay for the trip. They has been some good support for
this and so its time now to open it up and kick it off. So if you have an
idea how for a presentation/lecture for those coming through that pays
(even a little bit) then please let me know.
Additionally, can anyone send some feedback about how Su Ballards
presentation went at Transmediale (I just missed it :/ )
also, I have just finshed the first public version of my manual repositry
for open (Creative Commons) manuals about how to stream:
