Hi all,
This is a call out for projects to take place in the Whau local board area early - mid next year. please share with your networks.
__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __
Proposals are invited for peripatetic and site responsive temporary arts activities and activations across the Whau area.
Through activating public spaces, streets, parks, town centres, and empty shops we are seeking to build the Whau area's community and creative culture. We are interested in projects that are accessible and visible, and that engage with and reflect the diverse population of the area. We are also interested in community initiated projects with an emphasis on embedding creativity in everyday life.
This call is open to all art forms from music and literature to dance, theatre, performance, visual and applied arts. The scope of what can be proposed is broad and can include ideas for public events, performances and exhibitions or workshops and activities which place an emphasis on process, participation and social agency. Proposals can be for new initiatives or for an increase in the scope and visibility of an existing project.
Proposed activities must take place in the Whau area between February - June 2015.
Projects may be supported in one or more ways including:
- Project funding
- Practical assistance (help with finding locations, permits, planning, and applications for funding)
- Assistance with event promotion.
The exact nature of the assistance will be negotiated on a case by case basis.
We encourage you to discuss your idea with the Whau Community Art Broker, Melissa Laing, before sending in the proposal.

- An indication of your anticipated audience (Who are you targeting this work at and why?)
- A summary of the anticipated cost of the project and in what ways you plan to fund it. (Projects may receive funding for costs and artist fees, however this may not cover the entire cost of your proposed project)

Hey there,
Just a quick note to let everyone know I've launched a site called TODAY.
In contrast to the largely irrelevant sea of corporate events that other
sites offer, TODAY is a unique cultural events site which presents just one
event per day. No ads, no archives, no clutter.
It's already got some interesting happenings loaded in for the next couple
weeks, ranging from exhibition openings to local markets, a lunar landing
documentary, and a fitness expo.
The site is open for event suggestions as well as allowing organisations to
book a particular day for promoting your event for a small fee.
This is beta under the mantra 'release early, release often', so any
suggestions or feedback is appreciated.

best,
Luke
n.b. The site is Auckland based for now to keep things simple, but we'll
see how it goes in terms of expanding to other centres.

dear ADAs,
it's very awesome to be able to announce that our ADA chairperson, and my partner, Birgit Bachler has won one of the New Zealand Open Source Awards last night at Te Papa.
Birgit was nominated in the Open Arts category for her exhibition 'Copy Wildly', which was on show earlier this year in Toi Poneke Arts Centre in the context of the 2014 Wellington Fringe Festival. The jury commended her for "presenting a challenge towards the traditional ideas surrounding the pricing and distribution of art, and bringing concepts and ideas from the Open Source community to a wider audience that is not necessarily engaged with Open Source principles".
Two of the works included in this exhibition were shown previously in ADA conferences, with a revamped version of her "Discrete Dialogue Network" at the MESH Cities conference in Dunedin last year, and the workshopped version of her "Big Data Wall Fillers" at the recent Auckland symposium.
For more info on Birgit's work, please visit

Subject: Re: [Ada_list] ADA chairperson Birgit Bachler wins NZ Open Source
This was an AWEsome project and much of the visual art community
didn't really know what to do with it
-it took the aesthetics of data and the access to information to another plane.
I started writing something as a review Birgit but hate to admit I
never finished it.
Perhaps because I wasn't sure where for.
I'm thrilled the work's been recognised.
Brava, Wellington friend!
Sophie
NB: This would be a GREAT addition to the ADA ArtBase Sophie if you
wish to host it there!
