had (instead of the normal Spinal Tap guitar solo) a
interlude that owed more to Philip Glass than the Magic Bus era Who.
I'm involved in a band that makes psychadelic instrumental hip-hop. As
the guy who plays the laptop, I make the beats, but I employ an
improvisatory method, and a tight musical feedback loop whereby I set up
mics and a mixer with direct inputs from all of the band members'
instruments, and their playing becomes via filters and effects the basis
of my loops.
They have psychadelic tendancies (my aforementioned dad is the keyboard
player), and as I discovered in the process of (unreleasable! cursing
copyright law) experiments with sampling Meddle and Dark Side of the
Moon, psychadelic rock lends itself very neatly to building Aphex Twin
in trippy mode rhythmic soundscapes.
I must finish building my new website so I can share the joy...
