I have been lurking for about a month now, so I thought I had better say
hello. It really is wonderful to be able to tune in on a little of what is
going on and feel the possibility to make some connection to the digital
media scene in Aotearoa. :). I am usually a bit of a lurker on lists, but I
feel strangely at home on this one ;), so I will try to pipe up a bit more
often. So thanks to those who started this list, and also to Honor for
letting me know of it.
I was just going through the archives and see there have been various
pretty detailed and interesting introduction sessions, so I had better make
up something good for mine ;).
(.. so that was YOU Adam who got BFM streaming.. *thankyou!*.. :)).. )

OK, so here is wee automatic autobiography...
I am a North-Islander (very important to clarify, it seems .. ;).. ) and
grew up in a country area called Miranda (10pts to anybody who knows where
that is.. ;)..)
I studied computer graphic design at Wanganui Polytechnic and was able to
take advantage of a scholarship exchange so that I ended up at the
Minneapolis College of Art and Design, to do my final year.
In Minneapolis I worked as an animator, in computer-based training, and
then for more than four years as a designer/producer in the new media
department at the Walker Art Center - a multi-disciplinary contemporary arts
center there. (http://www.walkerart.org/
While there I worked alot with net.art/online exhibitions ..
(beyond interface is an ancient (1998) but favourite exhib example ..
) .. online community
spaces, as well as collections databases. I also became very interested in
cross-overs between art & education, and developed projects such as
In the background during this time I was also working with the Croatian
artist Andreja Kuluncic who I met in.. 1996.. and we had been developing
online art pieces such as "embryo". (http://embryo.inet.hr/
I finally got bored with America, I knew I didn't want to die and be buried
there, and while deciding what to do next, Andreja won-out and I decided to
experience life, and Europe's cultural scenes from Croatia for awhile. So
after a taking a break in NZ, I came about a year ago to Croatia, to
continue working with Andreja, and within an NGO we have here, called MAPA.
We have been working (periodically) for a few years now, on this project:

/ end bio, begin present-day /
It (DJ) has just been installed with it's new America-focused game, for a
show at the Whitney in NY, and I invite you all to give our (still needs
some polishing work) new game a go, and add your decidedly non-american
I would also like to invite you all to consider participating in an online
publication I work on here, called ART-e-FACT, whose next issue is around
the topic of Utopia. We are asking worldwide for artwork and writing
proposals, and it would be very interesting to be able to receive input from
a country such as New Zealand. :). I will send the official invite & topic
approach in a following post.
OK. well that is *embarrassingly large*.
I will sign off now, and send you all the invite to participate in
ART-e-FACT. I hope some of you will! :)
