A quick note on ANTPAS-related data:
The Antarctic Master Directory (AMD) is the central directory system that
contains metadata regarding Antarctic-related research. Metadata is
information about the data, rather than the data itself, but it also
directs you to where the data can be found. SCAR is encouraging all science
groups to ensure that metadata relating to their research is entered into
the AMD so that a record of what data is out there is kept. This should
also help with data retreival in the future too.
To this end, ANTPAS has been entered into the AMD as a project, so that
when ANTPAS-related metadata is submitted into the AMD, it can be tagged
with the ANTPAS project. Ultimately, we can then search for all
ANTPAS-related metadata in one hit, which should help us greatly with
keeping a track of our research and data. Note that IPA and CALM are also
projects listed in the AMD, so if these are relavant these can also be
tagged to your metadata.
So this is a request to:
1. Ensure that metadata about your research is submitted to the AMD (see
links below incase you are unsure about who enters the metadata)
2. Ensure that your metadata is tagged with the ANTPAS project if this is
1. Metadata linked with ANTPAS so far, and ANTTPAS project description
2. Antarctic Master Directory:
3. Unsure of who enters metadata? Contact your National Antarctic Data
My thanks to Shulamit Gordon from Antarctica New Zealand who has set ANTPAS
up on the AMD for us.
I look forward to seeing many of you at Santa Barbara on Sunday week!
Best wishes, Megan
