PGSA Portrait Photo Event (reminder)

First, a quick reminder. The talented Elizabeth is coming on campus on the 1st of May, from 10 am to 3 pm. She is making herself available to take portrait photos for PGSA members.The PGSA committee strongly encourages donating a 5 dollars koha to the photographer who is volunteering her time. You will receive a portrait photo via email (300 dpi resolution), if you desire photos in a higher resolution you may contact Elizabeth and separately arrange for additional payment.

Student Seminar - Surviving the PhD in an Age of Uncertainty

The PGSA general meeting will be followed by the first Student Seminar for this year with an awesome presentation from our former president, Sherrie Lee. The following is an excerpt from her presentation:

‘Uncertainty lurks in all areas of the PhD journey such as interacting with supervisors, establishing yourself as a researcher, and, most importantly, finishing the PhD. I will share how I have navigated obstacles in my PhD journey and reflect on the current challenges that I face in my 3rd year of studies.’

We are planning to run regular Student Seminar and we want to know what YOU would like to learn at the seminars! Let us know with an email at pgsa@waikato.ac.nz what skills would like to learn.

Proposal defense practice

Your confirmation enrollment is the first hurdle you need to overcome as a PhD student. Come practice your proposal defense with us first before presenting it to your supervisors and examiner! We will provide positive, constructive feedback. Send an email to pgsa@waikato.ac.nz and let us know when you wish to do your presentation and what you want to present on (specify if it is for a confirmed enrollment, and the prospective date of confirmation). These are our tentative dates for the proposal defense practice:

1 June 2017, 2 – 3 pm

6 July2017, 2 – 3 pm

3 August2017, 2 – 3 pm

7 September 2017, 2 – 3 pm

5 October 2017, 2 – 3 pm

2 November 2017, 2 – 3 pm

WSU Student Hub

Finally, the WSU has launched an online platform called the Student Hub. Such platform can be useful to network with UoW students, and to get to know what clubs are up to.
