Hi all,

In anticipation of Postgraduate Research Month, the PGSA has introduced a new feature for those of us that can't remember when our events are!  This should make it easy for those of us that already use Google Calendar or something similar (like Calendar in the Mac OS) to keep track of what's happening and when.  Those of you with smart phones will love this as you'll only need to "subscribe" once, and all PGSA-related events will appear in your calendar application.

All of the events scheduled for Postgraduate Research Month in October have been added to the PGSA Calendar, including all of the 3Minute Thesis heats, finals, and all of the other events sponsored by the PGSO and the PGSA.

In addition to the Postgraduate Research Month events, we'll continue to add our weekly tea/coffee gatherings, our monthly Postgraduate Presentations Series get-togethers, meetings of our executive committee (which you're always welcome to attend!), and any other events of relevance to postgraduate study at the University of Waikato.

If you've an event you'd like added to the PGSA Calendar, just drop us a line at <pgsa@waikato.ac.nz> and we'll review it, and if it qualifies as an event that targets postgraduate study at Waikato, we'll be happy to add it in!

Here's some instructions on how to subscribe:

NOTE: If you don't have a Google email address, Google ID, or Google Account, you will need to create one.  If you use Gmail you already have a Google ID; just log in with the same user name and password you use for Gmail.  If you don't have a Google ID or Gmail account you can sign up at <www.google.com/calendar>.

For Google Calendar users (on your PC or Mac):
If you use or subscribe to Google Calendar, just log into your Google Calendar account with your Google login and password.
1. Under "Other Calendars" in the left-hand sidebar, select "Add by URL" in the drop-down menu.
2. Enter this URL in the dialogue box:
NOTE: if you already have a Gmail account (with a username and password) you're already set-up to use Google Calendar. Just click on the "Calendar" link at the top when you're using Google Gmail or any other Google app (like Google Docs) that you may be using.)

For Windows OS:
1. Open up whatever Calendar application you use on your desktop or laptop
2. Find the section to add or subscribe to a new calendar.
3. Enter this URL in the dialogue box:

For Mac OS X
1. Open up your Calendar application
2. From the File menu, select "New Calendar Subscription" (File --> New Calendar Subscription)
3. Enter this URL in the dialogue box:
4. In the resulting dialogue box, set any preferences, then click on "OK". Done.  Now the PGSA Calendar will automatically appear in Calendar.
NOTE: If you select "iCloud" as your Calendar's Location (in the preferences in Step 4 above), then this calendar will automatically be shared with any iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) that you've linked with your Apple or iCloud ID.

Open up the PGSA Calendar in any web browser:
1. Open up any web browser
2. Enter this URL:

In the likely event none of the above works for you, just send us an email <pgsa@waikato.ac.nz> and we can send you an email invitation in reply, to which you'll only need to "subscribe".

Hope that helps!

The PGSA team
