Thesis Writing Circles
Bring your lunch! Refreshments provided!
The next regular meeting of the Thesis Writing Circles for doctoral
students will be on Friday, 7 August, 12:00-1:30 p.m. in BG.24. All
doctoral students (regardless of whether or not they have attended
previous meetings) are most welcome to attend.
The aim of the Thesis Writing Circles (TWCs) is to develop the
writing capabilities of higher degree students through collaborative

facilitated by senior academic staff in Student Learning and other
In the 7 August session we will discuss focusing your writing –
particularly from the perspective of writing an abstract. Student
Learning staff will bring a variety of abstracts for students to
critique and discuss how the writing could be strengthened and
improved. If you have examples of abstracts you have written and you
would like feedback – send the file to Andrea Haines
(ash1(a)waikato.ac.nz) and we will “anonymize” it and include it with
our examples. There will also be an opportunity to discuss how you
would like to see the Thesis Writing Circles function.
If you would like to join our Thesis Writing Circles page in Moodle,
please contact Trish Strang (pstrang(a)waikato.ac.nz).
If you’re planning on attending on 7 August, please let us know (for
refreshment planning purposes) – slsadmin(a)waikato.ac.nz .
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in BG.24 on Friday, 7 August.
