Re: [wlug] Another step on the way to corporate use of Linux

Lotus Notes is now running on Linux:
This is a little bit of a thread hi-jack but it is about corporate use
of Linux so here goes.....
I am an application packager by trade (MS environment) and the latest
version of Wise Package Studio
(http://www.wise.com/Products/Packaging/Overview.aspx) supports creation
and editing of RPM files. The beauty of this tool is how simple it is to
create and deploy consistent applications to large enterprises (we
package the application to work consistently on 2k/xp/vista/citrix).
I know it is doing nothing that couldn't already be done via a command
line packaging tool but a lot of companies have already invested massive
amounts of money in Wise infrastructure with delegated rights,
deployment systems and reporting and would love to be able to apply
those processes to their Linux systems.
So now with Wise and Notes I can build 2 (MS/RPM) packages following the
same configuration and testing steps and have every user running the
same application and configuration while my manager can manager the
teams workflows and productivity via the reporting functions.
I know most of you will not see it this way, but this is a massive leap
forward for Linux in the Standard Operating Environments that I help
design and deploy.
