ANNOUNCEMENT: Annual General Meeting, 22nd November
In accordance with Rule 6 of the charter, I would like to announce to
all members that the Waikato Linux Users Group (Incorporated) will be
holding its Annual General Meeting on Monday, 22 November, 2010, at
7pm, at the regular meeting location of Room MS4.G.02
Several officers and committee members will be stepping down this
year. Society membership has also gone down recently. Present and past
members interested in seeing WLUG continue as an IncorporatedSociety
are encouraged to attend this years AGM to meet quorum requirements
and stand for election.
If a quorum is established and new officers step forward, a bylaw
change is proposed to be voted on. Please see the
WlugCharterDiscussion for more details.
Note:
To be eligible to vote at the meeting you must have previously been a
financial member (although not necessarily for the 2010 year) and pay
your membership for 2011 at or before the AGM.
To be eligible to vote or stand for office at the AGM members must
have paid a subscription for the 2010 year before the AGM. If you'd
like to stand for committee and have not paid for membership this
year, please do this at the October Meeting or November
SaturdayWorkshop.
An amendment about who can vote at the meeting was passed in 2008.
"That the WLUG charter be amended to allow former paid members of the
WLUG of good standing, whose membership has lapsed, to vote at an AGM
of the WLUG with the proviso that they rejoin the WLUG and pay a new
subscription at or before the AGM."
Hi all,
I also have an old AMD Athlon desktop machine with erupted capacitors
to sort out (Soltek SL-75DRV2)(no monitor sorry). This is now on
trademe (Listing #: 328161960). Please let me know asap if you have a
GOOD soldering skill and are willing to adopt it or otherwise I will
take it down to eDay next Saturday.
Regards,
Sam

Hello all,
I've got two Toshiba Satelite Laptops to give away, both very old.
First laptop
8M of RAM. I can get Tom's Rescue Boot Floppy for work on it but
haven't manage to get Basic Linux installed though its been a few
years since my last attempt.
Second laptop
32M of RAM. I can get Damn Small Linux to work on it using a CD drive.
The screen is damaged on the right side - about an 8mm strip of black pixels.
I also have a desktop computer case that formally housed a Pentium III
motherboard circa 2001. You're also welcome to the motherboard but it
no longer goes.
I've also got some SCSI components and tape drives if anyone is interested.
All these will end up at eDay for recycling if no one would like them.
Please contact me off list if you're interested.
Cheers,
Chris
Wednesday night session at Te Whara O Te Ata is cancelled tonight due
to family commitments. Sorry for the late notice, I only just realised
that there was a conflict...
Also we have some donated computers now, so classes are open to
everyone not only people with laptops. From next week, bring your own
laptop or use our computers..

National Series: Advanced Robotics - The Future of Aged Care Services
The statistics around the aging population in New Zealand are worrying
whichever way we look at it. Currently over 500,000 people are aged 65+,
projected to double by 2028. By 2051, greater than 25% of our population is
expected to be over 70.
This increase will bring about major logistical issues in how we, as a
country, care for our elderly. More people will require support, and already
the ratio of nurses and care-givers to elderly clients is low.
Can technology help bridge this gap?
In this presentation Gillian Reid FNZCS ITCP, Deputy Chair of the Selwyn
Foundation, will outline how technologies such as Charlie are innovating
aged-care healthcare, how and why Charlie was designed, and the impact early
prototypes are making in trials at Selwyn Village in Auckland.
Note: Light lunch provided. Free for NZCS members, inexpensive for others.
